The Febco Series LF650A Lead Free Y Strainer (1/2") is installed in water piping systems to protect expensive equipment—such as backflow preventers—from damage or failure caused by foreign material in the pipeline. Built by Watts/Febco with a Lead-Free cast copper silicon alloy body, this strainer meets Lead-Free installation requirements for potable water applications. It features a 1/2" female NPT inlet and outlet, making it a natural fit ahead of any backflow prevention device in your irrigation or plumbing assembly.
The tapped retainer cap with closure plug allows quick access for cleaning, and the 20 mesh, 304 stainless steel recessed screen catches sediment and debris before it reaches sensitive downstream components. Maximum working pressure is rated at 400 PSI (27.6 bar), giving it a wide margin above typical residential and light commercial line pressures. Also available in 3/4", 1", 1 1/2", and 2" sizes to match larger service lines.

Is this strainer safe for potable (drinking) water lines?
Yes. The LF650A features a Lead-Free cast copper silicon alloy body, with a wetted surface that contains less than 0.25% lead by weight, meeting Lead-Free installation requirements.
This makes it suitable for use ahead of backflow preventers on potable water supply lines, as well as general irrigation piping.
Where should this strainer be installed?
Install it upstream of backflow preventers or other sensitive equipment to catch sediment and debris before it can cause damage.
Placing the strainer ahead of the backflow device protects the check valves and seals inside from grit that could otherwise cause leaks or premature failure.
How do I clean the screen?
Unscrew the tapped retainer cap, remove the closure plug, and slide out the 20 mesh stainless steel screen for rinsing.
Inspect the screen and gasket for wear each time you clean it, and reseat the screen carefully so it aligns properly in the recessed seat before closing the cap.
What pressure and sizes is this strainer rated for?
The LF650A Series is rated for a maximum working pressure of 400 PSI (27.6 bar) and is available in sizes from 1/2" up to 2".
This 1/2" model uses 1/2" female NPT connections on both the inlet and outlet, so a threaded pipe adapter is needed if connecting to hose-thread components.
