Description

Standard Tape Start. Secure Mainline Integration.

The Tape Loc x .400 Barb is the industry-standard takeoff fitting for initiating drip tape rows from a polyethylene distribution line. Designed specifically for use with a .400 punch tool, this adapter provides a streamlined transition from your poly mainline directly to 5/8" drip tape.

By utilizing a positive-locking mechanism, this fitting eliminates the need for clamps or glue, ensuring your rows stay connected even in the demanding conditions of commercial vegetable farming. It is a fundamental component among professional irrigation fittings for row crop systems, market gardens, and small acreage plots where high-uniformity irrigation is required.

Why Choose Tape Loc Technology?
  • "Punch-and-Plug" Simplicity: The .400 barb end snaps directly into punched holes in your mainline, creating a watertight seal without the bulk of threaded takeoff assemblies.
  • Superior Tape Grip: The Tape Loc nut compresses the tape against the internal barb, providing "annular compression" that resists pull-out and prevents leaks as the tape expands and contracts.
  • Fully Reusable: The mechanical lock can be easily unscrewed, allowing you to move your lines or store your fittings at the end of the growing season.
  • UV & Chemical Resistant: Molded from high-grade polypropylene, these adapters are designed to withstand sunlight exposure and the corrosive effects of common agricultural fertilizers.

How to Install: A Step-by-Step Guide

Follow these steps to start your drip tape rows.

Step 1: Punch the Mainline
Lay out your 3/4" (or larger) poly tubing. Use .400 Barb Punch Tool (SKU: PU400NEW) to create a specifically sized hole. Note: Standard 1/4" punches are too small for this fitting.

Step 2: Insert the Adapter
Push the small .400 barb end of the fitting into the punched hole. You should feel a distinct "snap" as the barb seats against the internal wall of the tubing.

Step 3: Prepare the Tape
Rotate the locking nut counter-clockwise (backwards) to expose the sharp tape barb. Slide your 5/8" drip tape over the barb until it hits the plastic shoulder.

Step 4: Lock it Down
Twist the locking nut clockwise (forward) over the tape. Hand-tighten firmly to compress the tape and create a watertight seal.

✔ Compatibility Check

Verify your punch and tubing size:

  • Inlet: This fitting uses a .400 barb. It requires a .400 punch tool for installation.
  • Tubing: Designed for Polyethylene (PE) mainline tubing. It is NOT compatible with PVC pipe or garden hoses.
  • Outlet: Fits 5/8" Drip Tape only. It will not fit 1/2" poly distribution tubing.
  • Pressure: Drip tape is a low-pressure product. Always use a pressure regulator (10-15 PSI).

Complete Your System

Get everything you need for a professional drip tape installation:

  • .400 Barb Punch Tool: Mandatory for making the correct sized hole for this takeoff fitting.
  • Drip Tape: High-quality tape for row crop and vegetable bed distribution.
  • Tape Loc End Cap: Securely close off the end of your rows with easy-flush capability.
  • Goof Plugs: Essential for plugging unused holes if you move your row layout.
  • Hold Down Stakes: Keep your tape in place and prevent shifting in the wind.
